“WAT” inspected, brass straight-legged mould with heel for .44 calibre Colt 2nd Model Dragoon percussion revolver with Civil War inscription on left inside leg which reads “JN’O WROE. / HAGERSTOWN. MD.” surrounded by 31 stars.
The “in the white” iron sprue-cutter is stamped “COLTS / PATENT” without an apostrophe. The two cavities, are for a round ball, nearest the hinge pin and a pointed conical with a heel base and a narrow grease groove. The groove helps facilitate loading into the cylinder chamber. The locating pin is on the right leg. This mould is correct for .44 calibre Colt 2nd Model Dragoon percussion revolvers. Many dings and dongs on the outside. A very interesting Colt Dragoon mould with I’m sure a great history. Rapley M#14
