Very fine, martially inspected Rogers & Spencer .44 Army percussion revolver s/n 4053 manufactured 1865 to fulfil an 1864 Federal contract of 5,000 revolvers. The majority were delivered after the conclusion of the Civil War. Many were acquired by Bannerman from the US government and sold to collectors. This fine example, features rich high polished blue finish throughout, with case coloured hammer and loading lever. Major components are marked with “B” sub-inspector marks. It has a standard 7½ inch octagonal barrel with cone sight and frame notch sight at the rear. It has a .44 calibre percussion cylinder set in a solid frame marked on the top strap “ROGERS & SPENCER / UTICA, NY”. The two-piece flared walnut grips are oil finished. They left grip bears a crisp script “RPB” cartouche for inspector Captain R.P. Barry.

Very fine condition. The frame, frame, grip-straps, trigger-guard and cylinder retain the majority of their brilliant blued finish with some light wear and loss of finish.  The hammer and loading lever retain most of their dulled case colours.

The two-piece walnut grips are in excellent condition, displaying a razor sharp cartouche.   Excellent mirror bore, possibly unfired. A handsome late Civil War period revolver.
