Fine to excellent Civil War period manufactured, Martially inspected Remington New Model Army conversion (to metallic cartridge) six shot revolver, serial number 66797 in obsolete .44 Remington centrefire calibre. Possibly an experimental model. Eight inch octagonal barrel, with three-line address: “PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION NEW YORK.U.S.A. / NEW-MODEL”. Blued barrel, frame, back-strap, brass trigger, web-shaped loading lever and cylinder, with case-coloured hammer. The rounded trigger-guard assembly remains plain brass. Complimented with two-piece oiled walnut grips. The Government inspector’s cartouche is visible on the left grip, with the initials of BH (Benjamin Hannis). There are military sub-inspector initials of “N”, “L” and “W” on the barrel, frame, cylinder, grips and trigger-guard.,
Overall with more 75% original military finish remaining. Good working order with tight action and 10/10 bright bore and strong rifling. A hard to find Remington conversion revolver in very fine condition.
