Diminutive 1860’s period “Peanut” size percussion derringer mounted with an unmarked 1 ½ inch barrel and styled after the famous pocket pistols manufactured by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia. The .36 calibre rifled barrel is engraved at the breech with foliate scrolls between a pair of German silver bands. It has a German silver dovetail bladed front sight and a V-notch rear sight. It has a foliate scroll engraved back action percussion lock with an unusual shell motif bolster. The classic chequered walnut birdshead grip is mounted with richly engraved German silver mounts. From the L.D. Eberhart collection.
Overall in very good condition, with iron parts exhibiting an honest soft grey patina. A little wear and impressions to the stocks and fine mechanics. Overall length 4 ½ inches. An honest 1860’s period derringer.
