Excellent National Arms Co. single shot No. 2 Deringer s/n 8850 manufactured circa 1865 to 1870. Total estimated at 12,000. Iron frame and barrel and chambered in obsolete .41 Short rimfire calibre with 2 ½ inch barrel, which twists sideways to load. Manufactured with knife blade extractor. Chequered two-piece walnut grips with birds-head grip. Decorative broad scroll engraving on frame and breech of barrel. Top of barrel marked “NATIONAL ARMS Co. BROOKLYN, N.Y.”
Purchased by Colt in 1870 and production of this model under their own name. Retaining most of its original blue to its barrel and much silver-plating to its frame. Sharp address and serial numbers, with Minty 9/10 plus bore with deep lands and grooves. An excellent example of this hard to find National deringer.
