Rare blued finish Merwin & Hulbert large frame double action six shot revolver s/n 1380, manufactured circa 1880’s in obsolete 44 M&H calibre with seven inch round barrel, six shot fluted cylinder, chequered hard rubber grips and lanyard.
Barrel address on top: “MERWIN HULBERT & Co. New York, U.S.A. Pat. Apr. 17. 77 June 15. 80 Mar. 14. 82 Jan. 9. 83.” On the left side of the barrel: “THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich. Conn. U.S.A.” On the left side of the frame: “CALIBRE 44 M.H. & Co”. Only a few thousand revolvers of this rare model were manufactured in the cowboy era of the 1880’s.
Barrel, grip-frame and cylinder numbered 1380. Original chequered matching grips with circular panel at the top, numbered 1380 on the inside of the right side grip. The butt is numbered 22253. Maybe an inventory number.
Retaining more than 40% original blue to barrel, frame and cylinder. Strong case colours in some areas to trigger-guard and hammer. Bright 9/10 bore. Good working order and condition. A hard to find M&H in good condition, with blue finish, is almost impossible to find.
