This is a Martially Inspected Colt .44 Calibre Gang (Armourer’s) Mould for the Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver. (Rapley M#38). Stamped No 37 on the brass ferrule section of the left grip and stamped ‘W’ (AT omitted) on both legs above the wooden handles. Stamped ’44H’ at the top close to the hinge pin. The six cavity mould has a round large head hinge pin, which is centre drilled, as is locked at the base by a large hexagonal nut. The slotted spru-cutter swings from left to right. The channel in the spru-cutter is drilled for six funnels. The conicals have heels and grease grooves. The tapered wood handles have formed butt-jointed sheet brass ferrules, and locating pin is in the left block.
