Very fine, British-proofed, factory customary scroll decoration and style engraved, Birds-eye cased Colt Model 1849 London Pocket Percussion revolver s/n 4140/. with four inch barrel and large rounded silver-plated iron trigger-guard. Factory engraving to barrel, frame, loading lever, hammer, wedge, back-strap and trigger-guard. Gothic style ‘COLTS PATENT’ within an unfurled banner, hand engraved on the left side of the frame.
Manufactured at Colt’s London manufactory, circa 1854. Four inch barrel with two-line address ‘ADDRESS. COL: COLT. / LONDON’. within finials and pointing in arrows, at either end.
Cased in its original maple case, with deep blue lining and original partition compartments. The beautiful richly figured Birds-eye maple case, has a vacant brass escutcheon on the lid.
The London Pocket percussion revolver is in very fine condition, retaining much of its original blue, case colours and silver-plating. The barrel, cylinder and trigger are blued, the frame, loading lever and hammer are case coloured and the back-strap and large rounded trigger-guard are silver-plated. Wonderful one-piece select walnut grips, retain most of their original high gloss piano varnish. The cylinder scene is 98% and all five cylinder pins remain intact on the back of the cylinder. All matching numbers, including the wedge which is numbered ‘13.’. The bore is excellent 9/10 bright, the screw heads are excellent and the action is in good working order.
Accessories include: ‘JAMES DIXON / & SONS / SHEFIELD’ bag type powder flask marked ‘COLTS POCKET FLASK’, Eley BROS large 500 count cap tin with green label, London ‘COLT’S PATENT’ .31 calibre mould for casting a round and conical shaped lead bullet, cleaning rod, nipple key and spare main spring, spare nipples and period key. All accessories are in very good condition.
