Beautiful post production engraved and inlaid with gold, Colt “Thuer” Third Model Deringer s/n 11920 in obsolete .41 rimfire calibre. It has a 2½ inch round engraved blued barrel, with “COLT” inlaid in gold in italic style on the top of the barrel.
The gilded frame and both sides of the blued barrel are intricately engraved with panels of foliate scroll engraving in the correct period style. The gilded back-strap is also intricately engraved in a feathering style from the rear of the hammer to the toe of the birds-head grip-strap. The barrel has a small German silver half-moon fore-sight. The hammer is case-coloured. The derringer is complimented with two-piece nicely grained deluxe walnut grips.
Serial number “11920” was manufactured circa 1875 with early features which include an upright high spur hammer and tight grip contour birds-head grip. It has all matching numbers “11920” on the left side of the grip frame, the under-side of the barrel and handwritten in ink on the inside each grip panel. It has a near mint bright bore with strong rifling. This beautiful Colt No 3 deringer has definitely been engraved and refinished by a Master Engraver to a very high standard in a late 19th century style of engraving.
