Very attractive engraved Winchester Model 1866 under lever rifle s/n 36072B manufactured circa 1870. Bold foliate scrollwork engraving on a stippled background to the silver-plated receiver, forend cap and buttplate. There are nice empty panels on either side of the receiver. The 24 1/4 inch octagonal barrel bears the address “WINCHESTER’S – REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING’S – IMPROVEMENT – PATENTED – MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.” with full magazine tube. It has a sporting front sight, semi buckhorn rear sight and sling swivels to forend cap and stock. The trap on the butt-plate contains a 4-piece cleaning rod. Nicely figured walnut forend with plain walnut stock which has possibly been replaced.
Overall, a very attractive engraved “66”, with a very clean 8/10 bore and strong rifling. The action is in good working order.
