Fine condition, special order, deluxe Winchester Model 1886 lever action short rifle s/n 70205 shipped in 1892, in obsolete 40-82 WCF calibre. It has a special order and rare, twenty two inch half octagonal barrel / half round with full magazine, chequered stock, pistol grip, shotgun butt and plain trigger. The piano varnished XXX chequered stock and chequered fore-end are made from select nicely figured walnut.
Serial number 70205 features a “Rocky Mountain” front sight with nickel silver blade and a sporting rear sight with a sliding insert, retained by a screw, offering a variety of notches and finer elevation adjustments.
Received in the warehouse on 6 September, 1892 and shipped from the warehouse on 7 September, 1892 to order number 4590. It is in fine condition, with much finish and nice patina. The bore is 9/10 bright and the action is great and in full working order. It’s historical Winchester letter from the Cody, Wyoming Museum records, states that it was shipped with an octagonal barrel. I have been assured by the previous owner that the special order, twenty two inch half octagonal barrel / half round barrel is numbered to the receiver and in the same font. Very attractive deluxe special order “86” in great condition.
