Sold: Ultra rare, almost impossible to find, “COLTS POLICE FLASK” bag-type powder flask with lanyard ring, manufactured by Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, under contract to Colt. The brass circular top is stamped “JAMES DIXON / & SONS / SHEFFIELD” and “COLTS POLICE FLASK” in an arc above the address. The base of the body has a split-spring ring for a lanyard.
This flask, is for British proofed Colt Model 1862 London Police percussion revolvers and British proofed Colt Model 1865 Pocket Navy percussion revolvers, that were shipped to Colt’s London Agency at 14, Pall Mall from 1862 until the end of the percussion production.
The three-position charger is 4/8, 5/8 and 5/8 drams. The end of the charger is chamfered, to accept the chamber of the cylinder. The gilded brass top is polished, with a fire-blue spring. The body is a dark brown / red lacquer. 4 3/8 x 1 3/8 inches. Near mint condition. Rapley F#42
