Rare cased Colt Model 5A Root 1855 revolver s/n 2471 manu. circa 1861 in .31 calibre.

Colt Model 5 Root 1855 percussion revolver with third type barrel marking, round 4 1/2 inch barrel, fluted cylinder, and rebated frame, in 31 calibre.  

Cased with a French Peacock flask as often seen with Colt Root revolvers. “Colt’s Patent” iron bow-legged 31 calibre moul, a typical period screwdriver, a green labelled “Eley Bros / London”” cap tin, and a Colt Steel cleaning rod. All serial numbers verified as matching. 

The bottom of this case is inscribed in pencil ‘Basel Wagner from Richard D. Fisher June 29, 1861’ as mentioned in “A collectors guide to the Colt Root Sidehammer” by Malcolm R. Burnette. These two men were involved in business and politics in Baltimore, Maryland during this period. The association between these two men deserves to be further researched.
