Exceptional nickel-plated Colt House Model “Cloverleaf” revolver serial number 5444, chambered in obsolete .41 Rimfire calibre. Manufactured circa 1873 with three inch barrel. High condition four shot revolver with three inch round barrel and complimented with nicely figured two-piece bird’s head walnut grips. Its two-line address reads from muzzle to breech ‘COLTS HOUSE PISTOL / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.’, with Maltese crosses at each end. The top of the frame within the flute is stamped “PAT.SEPT 19,1871”. The serial number “5444” is pencilled inside of both grips.
Fine condition with more than 90% nickel showing with areas of peeling on forward portions of cylinder and barrel. Crisp mechanics, with bright bore and strong rifling. The grips have good original varnish finish. Screws are excellent, retaining much original blue finish. Overall a great example of Colt’s first production solid frame revolver chambered for a metallic cartridge.
