Early, very fine condition, three digit British-proofed Colt First Model derringer serial number 639, in obsolete .41 rim-fire short calibre.

Total numbers of this model produced, is thought to be about 6,500. All First models were manufactured circa 1867 to 1890 at the Hartford factory. Markings on top of the barrel are: ‘COLT’S PT. F.A.MFG. Co / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.’ with large ‘No 1 straddling both lines and a Maltese cross motif at either end of the address. The frame has the standard amount of factory engraving.

The serial numbers 639 are stamped on the butt and under the barrel, towards the breech end. There are British proof marks stamped under the barrel, adjacent to the serial number.

It has a blued barrel retaining about 60% plus original blue finish and an engraved iron frame, which shows about 90% silver-plating. The hammer shows strong traces of case colours.

All screws are in excellent condition. The bore is 9+ out of 10 with strong rifling. The action is perfect. This is very nice Colt First Model derringer.
