Early, cased British proofed Colt Model 1851 London Navy six shot percussion revolver serial number 6443, dating to 1855. All matching numbers including the wedge. Octagonal 7 ½ inch barrel with address “ADDRESS. COL. COLT.LONDON” within arrows pointing inwards at both ends on the top flat. Blue finish to barrel and cylinder with case coloured frame, loading lever and hammer. Blued iron backstrap and large trigger-guard and one-piece varnished walnut grips.
Contained in its original early London case, made from walnut, with rectangular vacant brass escutcheon, in the lid, scalloped at the corners. It is lined throughout in bright red beige with large brass circular knob handle on the top right compartment. There is no provision for a cleaning rod, which is correct for this serial range of gun. The accessories include a “COLT’S/PATENT” mould marked 36B on the face of the right leg, “JAMES.DIXON/& SONS/SHEFFIELD” bag type flask, rare large 500 count galvanised “ELEY BROS” cap tin and nipple key. There are a number of .36 lead round balls in the top right compartment. The gun and accessories are all in overall fine to excellent condition.
