Very good, cased British proofed, Colt Model 1849 London Pocket percussion revolver s/n 9378, with six inch barrel and the rare feature of a small rounded iron trigger-guard. It was manufactured circa 1856. Cased in its original oak case, with green lining and ‘DIRECTIONS FOR LOADING COLT’S PISTOLS’ label inside the lid and round brass escutcheon on the outside.
This London Pocket is in very good original condition retaining a reasonable amount of original blue and case colours. The back-strap and small rounded trigger-guard are blued. The one-piece walnut grips, retain most of their original varnish. The cylinder scene is 95% and all five cylinder pins remain intact. The screw heads are excellent and the action is in good working order.
Accessories include: ‘JAMES DIXON / & SONS / SHEFIELD’ bag type powder flask, W & C Eley large 500 count cap tin with green label, ‘COLT’S PATENT’ .31 calibre mould for casting a round and conical shaped lead bullet, cleaning rod and a nipple key. All accessories are in very good condition.
Overall, a very nice cased 1849 London Pocket, manufactured at Colt’s manufactory in London, with rare six inch barrel and small rounded iron trigger-guard. Mentioned on page 136 (17) in “Colt’s Pocket ’49 including the Baby Dragoon & Wells Fargo” by Jordan & Watt.
