Excellent, Cased British proofed, Colt Model1849 London Pocket percussion revolver s/n 1748, with rare six inch barrel, manufactured circa 1854. Cased in its original oak case, with blue lining and ‘DIRECTIONS FOR LOADING COLT’S PISTOLS’ label in the lid. This early London Pocket is in excellent original condition retaining approx. 95% original blue to the barrel and cylinder, 65% case colours to the frame, loading lever and hammer and 80% plus, silver plating to the trigger-guard and back-strap. The one-piece walnut grips retain 95% plus of their original varnish. The cylinder scene is 100% and all five cylinder pins remain intact. The screw heads are excellent and the action is in good working order.
Accessories include: ‘JAMES DIXON / & SONS / SHEFFIELD’ with graduated charger nozzle from 2/8 to 4/8 Drams. Five hundred count, galvanised cap tin with ‘W & C. ELEY’ green label, ‘COLT’S PATENT’ .31 calibre mould for casting a round and conical shaped lead bullet, cleaning rod with oak handle and a nipple key. All accessories are in excellent condition.
Overall, an excellent early cased 1849 London Pocket, manufactured at Colt’s manufactory in London, with rare six inch barrel. One of the best examples of this model, that I have owned, over forty years of collecting and dealing.
