Fine American Flask & Cap Company double-sided cannon with eagle & shield flask with Navy charger. According to Riling on page 338, the makers designated it “The Coat of Arms flask”. The design appears on both sides and the sloping charger is described in the catalogue as the “Navy Charger”.  This flask was popular with users of the Colt and other makes of navy revolvers, and its use became so closely associated with this form of revolver that it is now incorrectly referred to by many collectors as the Colt navy flask.

It is decorated with a prominent Cannon pointing to the left with a drape of flags and prominent eagle with unfurled wings clutching a shield. Above the eagle are nine stars below two crossed pistols. Under the cannon is an anchor, many cannon balls and a bugle. Made for the Colt Model 1851, 1861 Navy percussion revolvers. The body has a brown lacquer finish, with the top being secured to the body with three steel screws. The spring is blued. Measurements: 5½ x 2 7/8 inches. Fine condition. See item 791/2 in “The Powder Flask Book” by Riling, pages 338 & 341.
