Rare Remington-Beals six shot Navy percussion revolver s/n 14424 with solid frame, 7 ½ inch octagonal barrel and chambered in .36-calibre, manufactured circa 1861-1862. Only about 14,500 manufactured in the early part of the American Civil War.

Manufactured by E. Remington & Sons in Ilion, N.Y., with two line barrel address reading “BEALS’ PATENT SEPT. 14, 1858 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS’ ILION, N.Y.”.

It was a primary competitor to the Colt 1851 Navy. Blued finish, walnut grips, brass trigger guard, and a dovetailed German silver cone front sight. It features a brass trigger guard, and distinctive “high spur” hammer. It was the first large-frame Remington, featuring a unique, concealed cylinder pin mechanism. 

Unlike the 1861 Navy, the Beals model has a hammer with a higher, more curved spur and a frame that hides the barrel threads at the breech. 

This model although not martially inspected was widely used during the Civil War due to its durability and solid frame construction. The Remington Navy revolver is slightly smaller framed than the Army.

Fine condition retaining virtually all its original bright blue to the cylinder and traces on the frame, loading lever, barrel and grip-straps. The hammer retains strong traces of case colouring. The action is good and the barrel and rifling is 10/10 bright. All matching numbers, including the grips. A rare gun to find in this condition and worthy of a good Civil War collection.
